ObjectiveGrow as storytellers while growing an audience

Scott and Jenn’s channel, Walk With History, explores historic sites and educates its viewers on the significance of each location. They started the channel as a hobby to share their enthusiasm of history  and to have make time to travel the world. Lately, they’ve been focused on adding a compelling edutainment factor into their history videos, while also growing their audience.

SolutionRefine the storytelling process

Chat and Storybeats became integral in helping Scott and Jenn think ahead about what they wanted to film. Storybeats helped them consider the structure of the story in advance of filming by inspiring plot arcs, rising action, story hooks, and more. Meanwhile, Chat provides a confident approach of what thumbnails will elicit the most views on a given topic. When Studio introduced Chat to the homepage, their workflow changed overnight. Instead of starting from scratch, he could simply ask: “What are some local history ideas within three hours of Memphis?”

With web search enabled, the results weren’t random. Spotter Studio suggested personalized, data-driven ideas drawn from their channel’s history. Two ideas that stood out on this trip were:

  • The History of Beale Street
  • The Sultana Disaster

Two of those ideas turned into real videos filmed in a single day because they were local and logistically easy. For Scott, this was the breakthrough: he no longer had to dig for inspiration. He know had ideas tailored to the Walk With History channel that were strong enough to shoot the very next weekend.

Once Scott had saved those ideas to his Idea Bank, he developed thumbnail concepts before filming. That pre-production step gave him confidence on-site:

“I could walk into a shoot already knowing what shots I needed for the thumbnail. Whether it was a sign, a landmark, or Jenn on camera, I had a plan in place instead of hoping we captured it in the moment.”

Their entire process looked like:

  1. Brainstorm ideas surfaced in Chat personalized to the channel.
  2. Save, organize and prioritize ideas in Idea Bank.
  3. Develop additional packaging ideas pre-shoot.
  4. Film on location with packaging top of mind.

By the time Jenn stepped on camera, Scott already knew which storybeats and visuals they needed to capture, giving them the confidence they needed to create compelling videos for their audience.

ResultsStronger Hits, Better Ideation, Bigger Opportunities

“Spotter Studio proved itself in literally our first video using it,” Scott shared. By brainstorming new ideas and organizing and further developing them as part of their ideation process in Studio, they saw 87.61X more views in the first 7 days on this video and also a 4.4X increase in their average CTR within the first 24 hours of posting. Since using Spotter Studio, the channel has had 14 hit videos measured as a positive Outlier video for the channel.

But the bigger story is what those wins unlocked. The channel recently crossed 50,000 subscribers, and are on their way to cross 100K a milestone Scott calls their “next mile marker.” With that growth, new opportunities are opening: collaborations, sponsored projects, and even a new part time role with American Cruise Lines, which now doubles as a way to make content while traveling.

For Scott and Jenn, this growth isn’t just about numbers in their YouTube Studio. It’s validation that their unique blend of storytelling and education resonates with a wide audience, and it’s giving them access to experiences they once thought out of reach. A cruise partnership that sends Jen to historic ports, conversations about TV opportunities, and the ability to film multiple videos in a single weekend are all outcomes of having a sharper system for ideation and production.

“I’ve wanted to get better at pre-production for years,” Scott said. “Spotter Studio finally gave me the tools to be intentional, so when we show up, we’re confident. That’s the difference.”

Crossing 50K subscribers is just the beginning. With their ideation process locked in, Walk With History isn’t only capturing the past, they're building a future full of bigger opportunities for years to come.

“I’ve wanted to get better at pre-production for a couple years, and Spotter Studio finally gave me the tools to be intentional about that and help in my filming.”
